It baffles me anytime a company spends millions of dollars on advertising and then makes a move to make themselves look really bad in front of the public. Take Walmart for example, with their recent issue with their ex-employee Debbie Shank, who now suffers brain injuries from a car accident and Walmart paid the medical bills. The woman won a million-dollar settlement, which she took home 417K (this money was intented for her long term care). Walmart in turn sues her for $470,000 for their lost money. After a huge public outcry, Walmart decided not to collect the money, which was a great move on their part. Why did they try to recover that money in the first place and inflict a huge public relations wound on themselves? I am not sure if this was a huge success (because it has become a huge viral marketing campaign) or a failure?

I can't believe this was published with the IStockPhoto logo
This is my personal favorite one, that is why it has made it to the header. It makes many great statements that can be applied into all of life.

This is a powerful commercial about the how linux has grown through the input of the community. A great quote for this commericial is: "collecting data is the first step towards wisdom, sharing data is the first step towards community." In a self-interest driven society it is very hard for individuals to understand the term community.

This was obvioulsy not a mainstream commercial, however, it is absolutely hilarious. Of course, Tux could get past security.

This is a rare Chinese advertisement for Linux
IBM is one of the top commercial contributors to Linux, bringing over 15,000 Linux customer engagements and over 3,000 Sun Solaris migrations. IBM also initiated a lot of advertising for Linux making more people aware of its existance. We leave you with these three IBM/Linux commercials
Microsoft has become such a household name that people spread the word for them. It is not as though they need the help when they are on a majority of the desktops in the world, however, companies should strive to reach a point in their viral marketing campaigns to make people market for them for free. Here are a couple of cool examples of people taking sounds from Microsoft's operating systems and making music and passing it along.
